Embracing the Cross in Lent: A Journey of Reflection and Renewal

Lent 2024

February 14 marks the beginning of Lent in 2024, and World Olivet Assembly members will embark on a collective 40 day scriptural meditation, in the form of personal scriptural reading, cross centered sermons, Bible studies and retreats to renew the light of the cross in each person's heart once again.

More significant than the date and customs associated with Lent, Olivet members use this period to realign themselves with the core tenet of their Christian faith: the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

During Lent, believers are called to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the significance of the cross in their lives. It is a time of introspection, repentance, and spiritual renewal as they prepare their hearts for the celebration of Easter.

As we journey through the 40 days of Lent, we are reminded of Christ's own 40 days in the wilderness, where he faced temptation and emerged victorious through the power of the Word of God. Similarly, Lent is a time for individuals to confront their own struggles and temptations through God's Word, seeking strength and guidance to overcome them.

Through seeking to know the meaning of the cross more deeply, believers draw closer to God and deepen their relationship with Him. They are challenged to examine their lives, identify areas where they have strayed from the path Jesus has called all believers to follow (Matthew 16:24), and make a conscious effort to realign themselves with His purposes.

As we walk this Lenten journey together, believers are encouraged to open their hearts to God's grace and allow His Spirit to work in them, shaping them into the image of Christ. May this season be a time of renewal and restoration as they draw near to the cross and experience afresh the power of Christ's resurrection in their lives.

Let us embrace this season of Lent with humility and gratitude, knowing that it is through Christ's sacrifice on the cross that we are redeemed and made new. May we emerge from this season stronger in faith, more steadfast in hope, and overflowing with love for God and others.
